New Orleans Museum of Art has commissioned a large-scale mixed-media sculpture by Sharif Bey, which will be featured in the upcoming exhibition Sand, Ash, Heat: Glass at the New Orleans Museum of Art, on view from August 30, 2024 to February 10, 2025. Part of a new monumental series, Bey's portrait bust explores the significance of adornment and the symbolic and formal properties of archetypal motifs. The exhibition will present a variety of perspectives on how glass is connected to histories of scientific discovery, foodways, and artistic innovation.
