NEW YORK, NY | albertz  benda is delighted to present the group exhibition of abstract art titled Impulse of an Era. Curated by Ché Morales, the show features a selection of cross-generational artists whose practices employ the formal potentialities of abstraction to explore themes of lived experience, spirituality, and historical or personal narratives. These artists have captured the essence and spirit of our contemporary moment through their dynamic and expressive works, embodying the energy and pulse of our time.

Through this exhibition, we aim to celebrate the diversity of contemporary artistic practices and showcase the power of abstraction to reflect and engage with the world around us. The works on display invite the viewer to explore the ways in which abstraction can communicate the complexities of our individual experiences and the impulses of the era we inhabit. Impulse of an Era promises to be an exciting and thought-provoking exhibition, offering a fresh perspective on the possibilities of abstract art in our time. Central to this exhibition is an investigation into the multifaceted nature of abstraction, both as an art historical concept and a tool for interpreting the contemporary moment. Rather than presenting abstraction as an oppositional force to prevailing movements or schools of thought, this exhibition celebrates a spectrum of approaches that embody the diversity of human perspectives and experiences.

Among the featured works is LOMEX, a captivating piece by Lindsey Brittain Collins that offers a profound reflection on built environments and urban spaces. Her conceptually-driven practice aims to share untold stories, investigating the ways in which architecture shapes social and economic structures through contemporary and historical events, memory, and personal experiences. Similarly, Pablo Rasgado’s Calle Dahlia (Poker) explores the intersection of personal and cultural histories, utilizing reconstructed public walls extracted from bustling city streets as a medium. The exhibition also includes a work from Tyrrell Winston’s Protection Paintings series, specifically his work titled Fab 5 featuring found colorful tarps juxtaposed with glossy metal panels painted by car mechanics, creating a commentary on the values of suburban life and the things that society deems worthy of protection.

The artists’ use of color, material, mark-making, scale, and surface imbues each work with its own unique meaning and metaphor. Through their exploration of abstract painting, these artists revitalize the genre and convey the profundity of contemporary stories. Impulse of an Era offers a thought-provoking and nuanced exploration of the potential of abstract art, and its ability to convey the richness of human experience.
