Fragmented Bodies II: Fluidity in Form
NEW YORK, NY | albertz benda is excited to present the second installment of Fragmented Bodies, a series of three comprehensive group shows that examines the ways in which the accelerated visual culture of the past five decades has influenced depictions of the human form.
In Fragmented Bodies II, special emphasis is placed on the increased fluidity between the digital and physical realms. Our hyperconnected world brings us closer together as we place our private lives on display, and yet we experience simultaneous experiences as the digital realm absorbs our self-narratives and strips them of their context. The artworks in Fragmented Bodies II organize our kaleidoscopic perception and capture the complexity of a moment.
Spanning painting, sculpture, and drawing, the works in these exhibitions reflect the impact that navigating these spheres has had on representation. The artists included in the Fragmented Bodies series bear witness to a period of increased awareness of how we construct our identities and structure our relationship with our own bodies. Brought together, these depictions of the human form suggest the emergence of an evolving visual vocabulary that responds to our over-stimulated consciousness.
The third and final installment of this series, Fragmented Bodies III (on view September 9 - October 2, 2021), will present a counterpoint to the public-self and the commoditization of imagery explored by Fragmented Bodies II.
These exhibitions could not have been realized without the support of many esteemed colleagues and galleries from around the globe.
