Kevin Brisco Jr.
Kevin Brisco Jr. is a painter whose work explores the complex dynamics of revisiting or observing moments. His recent body of work investigates the tension between the comfort and security that a home can offer and the alienation it can foster, particularly when viewed through the lens of society’s most vulnerable. Brisco captures this duality with stark lighting that cuts through rigid architectural forms, casting soft, nuanced hues onto his figures and subjects. His meticulous approach to light and tone echoes the techniques of the Old Masters, demonstrating a level of sophistication that sets him apart as a rare talent among emerging artists.
Kevin Brisco Jr. earned his B.A. from Wesleyan University in 2013 and his M.F.A. from Yale University in 2020. He has exhibited internationally at; albertz benda, New York, NY; Union Pacific, London, UK; TONE, Memphis, TN; the Contemporary Art Center, New Orleans, LA; Perrotin, New York, NY; Rumpelstiltskin Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; Sevil Dolmaci Gallery, Istanbul, Turkey; Antenna Gallery, New Orleans, LA; amongst others. He is the recipient of numerous grants and was awarded artist-in-residence fellowships at the Fine Art Works Center in Provincetown, MA, The Macedonia Institute in Chatham, NY, and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT. Brisco lives and works in Austin, TX.
